Ron Hope
Ron started out as an engineer and music balancer working for Radio Tees at it’s inception in 1975. In 1980 he became Commercial Production Manager and for 3 years he made numerous radio commercials and promos, not only for Radio Tees, but for the whole ILR network. He took part in the 1980 IBA Surround Sound experiments too, producing some of the country’s first “Ambisonic” recordings.
After 8 years a move to ITV’s Central Television saw him develop his skills in live mixing and all aspects of studio production. The last 15 years of a 23 year career was spent primarily as a dubbing mixer for many regional and network ITV shows. With his engineering background, he also worked on various project planning teams. He was involved in the design and build of Central’s new all digital facility at Central Court in Birmingham and laterly in the building of “Central News East’s” studio gallery there.
Keen for a change, in 2005 Ron opted for the freelance life. He maintained his connections with CITV, ITV’s childrens strand, by continuing to mix their on air promotions and idents after their move from Birmingham to Manchester.
Through his relationship with TWI (IMG), the worldwide sports distributer, Ron regularly mixes live FA premiership matches for domestic and international transmission and dubs everything from Golf through to Powerboat Racing for them too. He has mixed Wimbledon, live, for Fox Sports Australia on several occassions too.
Forming Magenta Penguin Limited has given Ron the opportunity to build his own dubbing suite in Lichfield. Based around a Pyramix masscore system and built to exacting standards, Ron now uses it to dub everything that Magenta Penguin produces plus a variety of programmes including "Escape To The Country" for the BBC and Channel 4's "4 Rooms".
